Thanks for this extremely useful review! I've been using tweetburner for months, but have recurring problems, and now I know how much more bit.ly offers.

If you are in an organisation that has web filtering, you may find that some of these URL shorteners are blocked since they are categorised as a possible way to create an anonymiser or proxy link.

Hope this adds to the discussion.

I like this comparison but I have discovered:

I like Adjix very much indeed - user friendly and VERY short :-)

Thanks for the feedback - I know there are MANY URL shorteners available with different flavors.

I selected the ones that are prominently used by those who are followed by http://twitter.com/worldresources and http://twitter.com/lauraleedooley.

Beth Kanter (http://twitter.com/kanter) recently asked for URL shortener information and her followers pointed her to this useful article - http://www.toprankblog.com/2009/01/11-best-url-shortening-services-vote-your-favorite/.

I will explore adjix further to see what I can learn about this tool. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks Laura found this a helpful starting point having launched fresh faced into the colourful void that is twitter.com.

I personally use http://z.pe . It's the shortest.

Just found this great tool, too bad it's paid! Still, it'll be interesting to see the direction URL shortners take...

It is interesting that Twitter quietly decided to standardize on the URL shortner bit.ly last week - http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/twitter_crowns_bitly_as_the_king_of_short_links_he.php
